How to Visualize to Manifest What You Want to Be, Do, or Have

Visualization has been proven effective by people of all walks of life who try to achieve better results or improved health. One common example is athletes visualizing a particular aspect of their performance, or visualizing an intended outcome. One study showed that visualizing shooting basketball free throws was just as effective as actually practicing free throws, and better than no practice at all.

But visualization is not limited to physical activity. It can be used in any number of circumstances to improve one’s life, and follows the simple principle that what we continually think about, especially when done with concentration, joy, enthusiasm, and gratitude, manifests in our life eventually.

The best times to visualize are:

  • Right after waking up, when the mind is clear and calm
  • Before going to bed, since the thoughts you fall asleep with will remain in your consciousness during sleep
  • During or after any meditation period, when the mind is calm and concentrated

Visualize clearly and vividly in as much detail as you can. Make it positive and put joy and enthusiasm into it. See yourself as already being, or doing, or having exactly what you want to be, do, or have.

If you’re repeating an affirmation that has visual elements, or would go well with a corresponding visualization, go ahead and affirm and visualize at the same time. Your practice will have added power.

As you’re visualizing, be aware of any beliefs that might surface that are contrary to what you’re visualizing. And if any aspect of the visualization is difficult to imagine, a subconscious belief might be causing the difficulty. Ask yourself what that belief is. If and when you discover it, ask yourself when that belief was formed, how you acquired that belief, and whether it still serves you.

If it no longer serves you, look for evidence in your life or others’ lives that it is not true. Look for and write down all the ways that the opposite is now true. Create an affirmation that affirms the truth, even if at first it is difficult for you to believe. Keep visualizing regularly while you’re going through this process because it will also aid you in instilling a new belief.

Visualization helps in the process of aligning your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and actions. When that alignment is there, you eventually manifest what you’re visualizing, whether it’s a new way of being, a spiritual habit you want to form, or something you need.
