How to Journal to Further Your Spiritual Growth
Journaling serves as a way for you to continue the introspection process and gain greater self-awareness. It can also serve as a log of your spiritual life, which can be especially helpful when you include lessons learned and record intuitive insights.
While journaling, let your thoughts and feelings come out, without denying, judging, analyzing, or editing them. They’re useful information about yourself.
Elaborate on the introspection questions, if desired, especially if you’ve uncovered any underlying beliefs about yourself and the world that have a significant impact on your life.
Write about your experiences with the various parts of the program, especially any benefits you may have received. When you focus on the benefits you’re receiving, it will motivate you to keep going and will help you to attract more of the same.
Write down the perceptions and realizations that have come to you from applying the spiritual principle you’ve concentrated on during the day or week. Often the act of writing will bring out more understanding and insights.
In the My Experiments program you have the option of typing in your journal entry or printing out the page and handwriting your entries. Some people prefer writing their journals by hand. It also allows for other options, such as writing with your nondominant hand (e.g., left hand if you’re right-handed) to gain greater access to the intuitive part of the brain. , by Lucia Capacchione.
If you are discouraged after journaling or introspecting, focus strongly on what you want to accomplish and write more about that. Keeping your mind on your goals, with joy and enthusiasm, will keep you from wallowing in discouraging thoughts and increase the likelihood that you’ll reach your goals. If necessary, adjust your goals or break them down into smaller, more manageable subgoals. Think in terms of next actions. What’s the next action needed to progress me toward my goal?
In the process of journaling, you acknowledge, express, and release the energy of strong feelings, you gain greater self-awareness and understanding of the subtle workings of your consciousness, and you reveal intuitive insights about the spiritual principle you’re practicing.
