The Creation:
ExperimentsWithTruth had its inception over ten years ago when I was still a monk. I was on a plane, my flight delayed for an hour or so. The ideas started flowing and I created several mindmaps outlining the program, piecing together practices that I had experimented with over the years.

I wasn’t in a position to create the program at the time, and the idea resurfaced in 2006. I knew I still had the mindmaps somewhere, but wasn’t sure exactly where—perhaps in a folder called “Ideas.” I went to my file cabinet, found the folder, and discovered the notes, which were the only “ideas” in the file.

The Name:
My wife Eileen and I went through a period where we were reading a number of books on Gandhi. I had already decided to create this website, but had no idea what to call it.

One day, while Gandhi’s autobiography, The Story of My Experiments With Truth, was sitting on our coffee table, it suddenly struck me: Experiments With Truth. It was the perfect name.
